Jan 03/18 Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg woman with lung cancer. Her living circumstances are exceptionally trying and she is working with a very limited income. She has significant monthly expenses for medications that she does not have coverage for. Cancer Crossing is happy that our organization has been able to help this patient!
Dec 27/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg gentleman with lung and gastrointestinal cancer. He has a very limited income and can no longer afford to purchase minutes for his phone. Cancer Crossing has assisted with the purchase of minutes for this gentleman so that he can communicate with his healthcare providers. Cancer Crossing is so happy to have been able to help!
Dec 12/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a late stage lung cancer Winnipeg man. This gentleman’s case is particularly complex. He requires a thermometer to try and keep ahead of a life threatening complication that may arise. He has no coverage for this type of purchase so Cancer Crossing has stepped in to help.
Nov 21/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a rural Manitoba prostate cancer patient with some financial assistance for child care. The gentleman’s cancer is late stage and he has been unable to work for quite some time. The meager incoming resources are causing a financial burden for this young family. There are several young children involved and the spouse is struggling to keep the family afloat. We are pleased we could help this family in a time of severe need.
Oct 03/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg recurrent lung cancer patient with the cost of transportation to and from her multi-weekly appointments. She is underemployed with minimal government support. Her existing income/support still leaves her short of being able to pay her share of transportation. Cancer Crossing is pleased to have been able to help this patient out!
Aug 23/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg breast cancer patient with the cost of a surgical bra and binder. She has no insurance to cover this expense and is off work recuperating. We wish this woman the very best as she continues to recover from this major surgery and are pleased we were here to help her out!
July 26/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a rural Manitoba colorectal cancer patient with travel costs for trips to and from Winnipeg for medical appointments and a required surgery. This patient is on a very limited income and he is finding arranging his travel is difficult and costly. Cancer Crossing is pleased we can offer a bit of relief to this gentleman!
July 13/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted an elderly lung cancer patient from the Parkland Region of Manitoba. She is on a very limited income and the expense of travelling to and from her medical appointments is becoming quite costly. She has no other program by which to assist her with these travelling expenses. Cancer Crossing is pleased to have been able to make a contribution to her travel expenses as she continues to access the care she requires.
June 20/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg breast cancer patient who had a double mastectomy leaving her with irritating and painful ‘dog ears’. Her cancer has now advanced, and surgery to correct these dog ears is no longer an option for her. She is on extremely limited income (government support) so Cancer Crossing has covered the cost of a specialty tank top that holds the dog ears in place and offers her the comfort she was so desperately seeking.
May 30/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted another rural Manitoba gentleman with lung cancer. This gentleman is on a very limited income and has been traveling to and from Winnipeg for treatment and further assessment for almost a year. None of his travel expenses have been covered by any plan and we at Cancer Crossing are so pleased we have been able to give him a little bit of help!
Apr 20/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a rural Manitoba gentleman with lung cancer. He is on a very limited income and received support for his stay in Winnipeg during treatment, but when his treatment was extended, his housing support was cut off. He did not receive any assistance with travel expenses to and from Winnipeg for treatment either. We are pleased that Cancer Crossing has been able to give him a little bit of help!
Apr 3/17 Cancer Crossing has assisted a family who has a child with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This family was stretched financially to begin with and the diagnosis and subsequent treatment has set the family back even further. The mother was unable to continue her job as she needed to take care of her son. We are pleased we could offer a bit of help to this family during trying times.
March 6/17 : Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg breast cancer patient, who has very limited income, by making a contribution towards the cost of parking and fuel for her to attend her radiation treatments.
February 13/17 : Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg sarcoma cancer patient. This patient had to travel to Toronto for surgery. She lives on a very limited income. She is fairly new to Canada, having arrived in 2014, and was in the process of pulling a life together here when this diagnosis came. We were able to assist with uncovered costs associated with her transport within the City of Toronto.
February 3/17 : Cancer Crossing has assisted a rural Manitoba endometrial cancer patient with uncovered costs associated with 33 trips to and from Winnipeg for radiation treatments. Her treatments began January 17th and we wish her well!
January 27/17 : Cancer Crossing has assisted a rural Manitoba metastatic breast cancer patient with costs associated with child care, as due to treatment side effects, she is needing support to manage with an infant child at home.
January 24/17 : Cancer Crossing has assisted a low fixed income cervical cancer patient with an invoice she received for the non-subsidized portion of transportation to and from her radiation treatments. We are so delighted we are here to help!
January 11/17: A Winnipeg prostate cancer patient requires additional diagnostic testing and needs medication to complete the test. He has no coverage for this medication so Cancer Crossing has stepped in to help. We wish this gentleman all the best!
December 23/16: Cancer Crossing has assisted with the purchase of uncovered medication for a Winnipeg gentleman with metastatic cancer. We are pleased to be a small source of support for cancer patients as they wind their way down the cancer path.
December 2/16: Cancer Crossing has assisted with the purchase of uncovered prescription medication for a northern Manitoba gentleman with lung cancer. We are happy we could help this patient!
November 29/16: Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg breast cancer patient with the purchase of a removable shower bar for her bathtub as she is having difficulty getting in and out of the tub while on chemotherapy. We are so pleased we could help this patient!
November 24/16 : Cancer Crossing has made a contribution towards the rental of a tilt wheelchair for a rural Manitoba palliative cancer patient who has lost the use of her lower limbs. We are pleased to have been able to play a role in her care!
November 16/16 : Cancer Crossing has been able to assist a 78 year old patient with metastatic prostate cancer. He has a very limited income and lives in a Winnipeg bedroom community. He has a family member drive him to Winnipeg for diagnostics and treatment he cannot receive in his area. He is struggling with the additional costs associated with parking and travel and we are pleased to have been able to give him a bit of help to aid the access of his ongoing care.
November 9/16: Cancer Crossing has assisted a northern Manitoba metastatic prostate cancer patient with a contribution towards uncovered medication expenses. We are so happy to have been of assistance!
November 6/16: Cancer Crossing has assisted a Winnipeg metastatic breast cancer patient with costs associated with home oxygen. We are pleased to have been able to contribute to her care.
June 16/16: Cancer Crossing heard from a cancer patient suffering terribly with swelling in his feet. He desperately needs a pair of soft shoes and cannot afford them. We are pleased to say that Cancer Crossing has provided him with the funds to get a new pair of shoes – which we hope will offer him much needed relief!
May 19/16: Cancer Crossing is pleased to report we have provided some financial assistance our second cancer patient! We were contacted by a woman whose father was in Winnipeg for colon cancer treatment. His wife traveled to Winnipeg with him from their home in northern Manitoba. He was here for an extended period for chemo and radiation. The daughter is deeply concerned for her parents and is doing everything she can to help them. We are happy we have been able to help this family.
April 14/16 : Today Cancer Crossing issued its first cheque to a cancer patient needing financial help. The funds were sent to a gentleman dealing with prostate cancer in Winnipeg. He reached out to us after hearing about our program and we are delighted we could help!
This is why we exist – to provide some financial assistance to cancer patients during a most difficult time.
